Even though I spend my day making music, in the evening I love to read about astronomy and astrophysics!  Stephen Hawking is one of my favorite scientific authors because he takes very complex space concepts and explains them so a regular person can understand them. I’m particularly interested in the strange gravity effects of black holes, neutron stars, and gravitational lensing. I also love reading about quark matter (strange matter), gravity waves, quasars, cosmic strings, supernovae, and the vast distance of space. It’s all just outside our atmosphere, and it gets really weird the further you look! Along with Hawking, I enjoy reading articles from my NASA app and the Hubble Space Telescope App.

I also enjoy fantasy fiction novels, and my favorite author is currently Brent Weeks.  He’s got a really cool series called The Lightbringer, and I also finished his trilogy The Night Angel. Of course, I am a major Game of Thrones fan, but George R. R. Martin takes too long to write his books. The next G.O.T. book might not come out until I retire!  It’s been a while, but I’ve spent a lot of time with J.R.R. Tolkien and the Lord of the Rings series. It took me a long time to get through the Silmarillion, but it was well worth the read. I remember enlarging all of Tolkien’s maps of middle earth (all three ages) and tracing the paths of all his characters.

Books are a major part of my life and I read every day!  The key is to find something you really enjoy and stick with those books.  It doesn’t have to be something that you think you should read, and it doesn’t have to be something that involves your career or your classwork. I think the best books are the ones that get you excited to read them every day!
